Jet pump cleaning — the wash for when brushing stops working

Pressurised water through the coil fins and blower wheel, with the unit bagged and drained so nothing reaches your wall or floor. This is the clean that shifts grime a dry service physically cannot reach.

Five signs the coil is past a dry clean

Jet pump cleaning is ₹200 more than a dry service. It is worth it in these cases and honestly not worth it otherwise.

A musty smell on start-up

The single clearest sign. That smell is biofilm growing on a damp, dirty coil, and no amount of dry brushing removes it — it needs washing off.

Airflow is weak even with clean filters

If you have cleaned or replaced the filters and the throw is still poor, the blockage has moved past them into the blower wheel and coil fins.

Visible grime between the fins

Look into the indoor coil with a torch. If the gaps between the aluminium fins are packed rather than open, brushing will not clear them.

It has been well over a year

Grime that has been baking on through a full summer hardens. Past roughly eighteen months, a dry service becomes cosmetic.

Straight after the monsoon

Humidity plus accumulated dust is what grows biofilm in the first place. This is why the AMC schedules the jet pump wash for mid-year rather than spreading visits evenly.

How it is done

Bagged, washed, dried — in that order

The washing is the easy part. Doing it without water reaching your wall, and without leaving the unit damp, is what the visit is actually for.

Unit bagged and drained

A waterproof jacket goes around the indoor unit and drains into a bucket. Everything that comes off the coil leaves through that hose — nothing runs down the wall behind it.

Filters and blower out

Filters removed and washed separately. Where the blower wheel can be drawn out it is, because cleaning it in place is always a compromise.

Pressurised wash through the fins

Water driven through the coil at pressure, along the fin direction rather than across it. Blasting across the fins flattens them, which permanently reduces airflow — this is the most common way an inexperienced wash damages a unit.

Drain line cleared under pressure

The same pressure is used to flush the drain line properly, which is usually where the musty smell has been sitting.

Dried and reassembled

The unit is dried before it is closed up and run. Sealing a wet coil back into a plastic housing simply restarts the biofilm you just paid to remove.

Cooling verified

Run under load, temperature drop measured, drainage watched. You should hear and feel the difference in throw immediately.

Money well spent, or not

Is it worth ₹200 more than a dry service?

Sometimes clearly yes, sometimes clearly no. We will give you the same answer on the phone that we would give a relative.

Questions about this service

What is jet pump cleaning for an AC?

It is a deep clean where the coil and blower wheel are washed with pressurised water rather than brushed dry. The indoor unit is wrapped in a waterproof jacket that drains into a bucket, so the water and grime leave through a hose instead of running down your wall. It costs ₹599 and takes about 90 minutes.

Is jet pump cleaning better than a normal AC service?

It is deeper, which is not the same as better for every situation. If the coil is genuinely clogged or there is a musty smell, jet pump cleaning at ₹599 is the right call because brushing physically cannot shift that. For routine upkeep on a unit serviced within the last year, the ₹399 dry service is enough and the extra ₹200 buys you very little.

Why does my AC smell musty when it starts?

That is biofilm growing on a damp, dirty coil, usually in the drain line as well. It is the clearest single indicator that a unit needs washing rather than brushing — dry cleaning will not remove it, and air freshener only masks it until the next start-up.

Will the water damage my wall or furniture?

No. The unit is bagged into a waterproof jacket that funnels everything into a drain hose and bucket before any water is used. We do ask for clear space beneath the unit, but nothing needs covering.

How long does jet pump cleaning take?

About 90 minutes for a single split unit — roughly twice a dry service, because the unit has to be bagged, dismantled further, washed, then properly dried before it is closed up again.

How often should I get jet pump cleaning done?

Once a year is right for most homes in Ahmedabad, ideally just after the monsoon when humidity and accumulated dust have done their worst. Between those, dry services at ₹399 are the sensible maintenance. That is exactly the pattern the ₹1,199 AMC schedules.
